At the same time, a soulful outline meets a timeless bottom contour that rolls into a classic 60/40 longboard rail, resulting in a board that can nose-ride, cut, and glide smoothly over the water. What is also striking about this board is that a hard edge has been inserted into the tail of the board to provide controlled drive when making sharp turns, and a slight concave in the nose runs through the front third of the board, creating extreme hold and speed during nose-riding. We recommend the Checkmate for all surfers who want to expand their repertoire of maneuvers on a longboard. Originally designed for the Santa Barbara points, the Checkmate works best in long head-high waves but can be surfed up to a few feet overhead at your reef or beach break.
