Game over, this board wins! The Checkmate is a longboard that takes no prisoners, so get ready to surf at the top of your game.

The Checkmate was designed by Wayne Rich to get you off the bottom fast, to be agile from rail to rail, and to generate power from the tail: a performance longboard through and through. Fast, wrapping turns in the pocket and hard down-the-line bottom turns are standard maneuvers for this modern lady.

At the same time, a soulful outline meets a timeless bottom contour that blends into a classic 60/40 longboard rail. The result is a board that noserides, trims, and glides as beautifully as any traditional log on the market.

Not all the secrets of the Checkmate are revealed, but this can be: there's a hidden hard edge in the tail that provides controlled drive when you initiate tight turns, and a slight concave in the nose runs through the front third of the board for lift and acceleration when you're on the tip.

The Checkmate is highly recommended for all surfers who want to expand their repertoire of maneuvers on a longboard. Originally designed for the points of Santa Barbara, the Checkmate performs best in long, drawn-out walls up to head high, but you can ride it a couple of feet overhead on your own reef or beach break.

Construction - Natural Fiber Technology (NFT)

Natural Fiber Technology is not only made with natural composite reinforcements, it also feels incredibly natural. Half of the reinforcement by volume in these boards consists of natural fibers like flax and hemp. The other half consists of E-glass, and the whole is layered and vacuum bagged under pressure to maximize adhesion and minimize excess resin. This results in an impressive strength-to-weight ratio. The natural fiber not only replaces a significant portion of what would otherwise be fiberglass, but also dampens better, providing a predictable, natural response. The simple appearance of the layup is as elegant as the way the board surfs.
