Torq Summer Fish TEC - FCS II - 5 Fin - Shortboard
Description
“There’s no such thing as bad surf.”
The Summer Fish is short but wide, with hidden volume; paddling is so easy it almost feels like cheating. Yet, the pulled-in swallow tail is lively and responsive. Those small summer waves become a playground of ramps and small power pockets, strung together by flat sections and fun bowl sections. It opens your eyes to a whole new skatepark in the lineup.
It's an incredibly versatile board – small waves, onshore days, your first shortboard, a step-down from a longboard. Whatever it is, this board proves the old saying: there's no such thing as bad surf.
Fins included: None.
Construction - TEC
Torq Epoxy Composite offers performance shapes in a vacuum epoxy lay-up. With vacuum epoxy, the board is laminated by hand and then vacuum-bonded, ensuring the fiber adheres well to the board and excess resin is removed. In this vacuum process, Torq uses a few tricks that keep the resin content much lower than normally achievable.
What are the benefits?
Additional layers of fiber can be added while keeping the overall weight low – Torq's shortboards have 18oz fiber on the deck and 10oz on the bottom, about double what most boards of the same weight have.
The result is both light and durable. The weight is comparable to a PU, but it contains much more fiber and more layers that strengthen the rails.
How do they surf?
The performance is very direct – TEC responds immediately, which is especially nice in smaller or weaker waves. In larger waves, the advantage is that they break much less easily.
If you're used to a PU, they feel fast at first. After a few sessions, your old PU will feel very slow. Torq's team riders report that their boards last about 2 to 4 times longer than their previous boards.
About Torq
Torq builds epoxy surfboards known for their strong constructions and well-thought-out shapes, from performance shortboards to accessible all-rounders. The boards are made to withstand intensive use while maintaining a lively feel. This makes them a logical choice for the fickle conditions of the North Sea and for the rack at Hart Beach.
