Torq PG-R TEC - FCS II - 5 Fin - Shortboard
Description
"I got mine last year and I can confirm it's a wave catching machine. Everything is easy with it!"
The PG-R is the most important board in your quiver. It's the board you'll surf 80% of the time in less-than-perfect waves, so it simply has to be good.
Torq designed the PG-R for average, everyday surf. It's fast, paddles easily, and catches waves early: intended as a Performance Groveller that skates over flat sections but can also handle critical parts of the wave.
The side effect is a board that's excellent for progression. It's stable and confidence-inspiring, encouraging you to push harder. It generates and maintains speed, which you can translate into big turns or airs. Lay it on a rail and you'll get tenfold back. A board that elevates your level, no matter the conditions.
Fins included: None.
Construction - TEC
Torq Epoxy Composite (TEC) offers performance shapes in a vacuum epoxy lay-up. In vacuum epoxy, the board is hand-laminated and then vacuum-bonded, ensuring the fiber adheres well to the board and excess resin is removed. Torq uses a few tricks in this vacuum process that keep the resin content much lower than normally achievable.
What are the advantages?
Additional layers of fiber can be added while keeping the total weight low – Torq's shortboards have 18oz fiber on the deck and 10oz on the bottom, about double what most boards of the same weight have.
The result is both light and durable. The weight is comparable to a PU, but there's much more fiber and more layers strengthening the rails.
How do they surf?
The performance is very direct – TEC responds immediately, which is especially nice in smaller or weaker waves. In larger waves, the advantage is that they break much less easily.
If you're used to a PU, they'll feel fast at first. After a few sessions, your old PU will actually feel very slow. Torq's team riders report that their boards last 2 to 4 times longer than their previous boards.
About Torq
Torq builds epoxy surfboards known for their strong constructions and well-thought-out shapes, from performance shortboards to accessible all-rounders. The boards are made to withstand intensive use while maintaining a lively feel. This makes them a logical choice for the variable conditions of the North Sea and for the rack at Hart Beach.
