Torq M2 TEC - FCS II - 5 Fin - Mid-Length
Description
“…LIGHTWEIGHT MID-LENGTH PERFORMANCE”
Performance minimal boards are among the most fun and versatile boards you can own. Ideal for catching your first waves, perfect for gliding on small, clean waves, and with enough paddle power and pick-up for bigger or messier surf. Normally, a performance minimal has a downside: due to the size of the board, they are inherently weak to stay light, causing them to quickly lose their responsive feel or simply break. With the Torq TEC construction, you get a light board with the strength of a much heavier board and much more responsiveness. The combination of carbon strips on the top and bottom makes these boards extra lively, making them surf much shorter than their length suggests.
About the fin setup
The M2 has 5 fin boxes for a quad or thruster setup, except for the 6’6”: it has 4 fin boxes and a longboard fin box in the middle. This allows you to ride the 6’6” as a quad, a thruster, and a single fin. The middle fin box is most suitable for ROAM longboard fins, FCS longboard fins with a screw and plate, and Futures longboard fins.
Fin(s) included: None.
Construction - TEC
Torq Epoxy Composite offers performance shapes in a vacuum epoxy layup. In vacuum epoxy, the laminate is applied by hand, after which a vacuum process adheres the fibers to the board and extracts excess resin. Torq uses a few proprietary tricks in the vacuum process, which keeps the resin content significantly lower than normally achievable.
What are the advantages?
Additional layers of fiber can be added while keeping the total weight low – Torq's shortboards have 18oz fiber on the deck and 10oz on the bottom, roughly double what you'd find on most boards of the same weight.
The result is both light and durable. The weight is comparable to a PU, but with much more fiber and more layers reinforcing the rails.
How do they surf?
The performance is very direct – TEC responds immediately, which works particularly well in smaller or weaker waves. In bigger waves, the advantage is that they break much less easily.
If you're used to a PU, they'll feel fast at first. After a few sessions, your old PU will feel very slow!
Torq's team riders report that their boards last approximately 2 to 4 times longer than their previous boards.
About Torq
Torq is known for epoxy surfboards that combine low weight and high strength, from accessible all-rounders to high-performance shapes developed in collaboration with renowned shapers. Each construction – TET, TEC, or ACT – has its own character, but they are all built to last. This makes Torq boards a good fit for Hart Beach: boards that can withstand daily use in the North Sea and work for every skill level.
