Torq Fish TEC - FCS II - 2 Fin - Shortboard
Description
“I bought this board to complement my quiver for small days, but it quickly became my daily driver.”
In line with the original Fish design, this is by far the fastest board in the TEC line. The Fish loves down-the-line waves, high speed on the wave, and open-face wraps. Torq has slightly revised the design with a modern twist, so you can control all that speed with smooth directional changes and a fluid rail-to-rail flow.
The twin fin set-up is loose enough for tight turns, but just as well suited for long arcs on clean waves. Its width and volume also make it a good choice for advanced beginners looking for a shorter board. It's equally at home in average surf: the large planing surface delivers performance in weaker waves.
Torq recommends upright twin fins over traditional keel fins here.
Fins included: None.
Construction - TEC
Torq Epoxy Composite offers performance shapes in a vacuum epoxy lay-up. In vacuum epoxy, the board is laminated by hand and then vacuum-bonded, so that the fiber adheres well to the board and excess resin is removed. Torq uses a few tricks in that vacuum process to keep the resin content much lower than is normally achievable.
What are the benefits?
Extra layers of fiber can be added while keeping the total weight low – Torq's shortboards have 18oz fiber on the deck and 10oz on the bottom, about double what most boards of the same weight have.
The result is both light and durable. The weight is comparable to PU, but there is much more fiber and more layers strengthening the rails.
How do they surf?
The performance is very direct – TEC reacts immediately, which is especially nice in smaller or weaker waves. In larger waves, the advantage is that they break much less quickly.
If you're used to PU, they will feel fast at first. After a few sessions, your old PU will feel very slow. Torq's team riders report that their boards last 2 to 4 times longer than their previous boards.
About Torq
Torq builds epoxy surfboards known for their strong constructions and well-thought-out shapes, from performance shortboards to accessible all-rounders. The boards are made to withstand intensive use and still feel lively. That makes them a logical choice for the changeable conditions of the North Sea and for the rack at Hart Beach.
