Torq Chopper TEC - FCS II - 2 + 1 Fin - Mid-Length
Description
“Replaced the fins on my 6’10 with a set of MRs. Works so well in fun waves, holds its line and carves on a dime.”
The Chopper is a super versatile shape – it has the volume and length to catch knee-high waves or to take off early in surf well overhead.
The design features some volume forward and a low entry rocker, allowing it to trim nicely forward on an open face or in small conditions. There's a good amount of foam under your chest, making it paddle well without feeling large and corky.
In the tail of the board, you'll see the modern refinement of a classic egg: the tapering tail combined with a low rail, a single to double concave, and a smooth exit rocker makes it surprisingly lively when ridden from the tail.
It has a 2+1 fin setup and can be ridden as a 2+1, as a single fin, or as a twin.
Fin(s) included: None.
Construction - TEC
Torq Epoxy Composite offers performance shapes in a vacuum epoxy layup. In vacuum epoxy, the laminate is applied by hand, after which a vacuum process adheres the fibers to the board and extracts excess resin. Torq also uses a few proprietary tricks in the vacuum process, which keeps the resin content much lower than is normally achievable.
What are the benefits?
Extra layers of fiber can be added while keeping the total weight low – Torq's shortboards have 18oz fiber on the deck and 10oz on the bottom, about double what you find on most boards of the same weight.
The result is light yet durable. The weight is comparable to a PU, but with much more fiber and more layers reinforcing the rails.
How do they surf?
The performance is very direct – TEC responds immediately, which works particularly well in smaller or weaker waves. In larger waves, the advantage is that they break much less easily.
If you're used to a PU, they will feel fast at first. After a few sessions, your old PU will feel very slow!
Torq's team riders report that their boards last approximately 2 to 4 times longer than their previous boards.
About Torq
Torq is known for epoxy surfboards that combine light weight and high strength, from accessible all-rounders to high-performance shapes developed in collaboration with renowned shapers. Each construction – TET, TEC, or ACT – has its own character, but they are all built to last. This makes Torq boards a good fit for Hart Beach: boards that can withstand daily use in the North Sea and work for every skill level.
