Sunova Moon Tail CF Morphlex Team - Futures - 5 Fin - Shortboard
Description
THE MOON TAIL is the step-up from Sunova's Christian Fletcher line. This board has a fairly straight outline and very low rails, making it a great machine to hold a line in solid waves and get out alive. You can still disengage the tail and throw some fins, but this board clearly likes a bit more power. Make that tricky section and string deep tubes together today with the Moon Tail.
- OUTLINE: FULLER NOSE, TIGHT PARALLEL OUTLINE TO A MOON TAIL

- ROCKER: FLATTER
- RAILS: STEP RAILS
- FINS (not included): 5 FINS
- PURPOSE: A GOOD PADDLER THAT HOLDS DROPS WELL AND SUITS FAST, HOLLOW WAVES

- SURFER: ADVANCED TO PRO
About the board
GENERAL PURPOSE | BOARD THEME
A good paddler that holds drops well and suits fast, hollow waves.
WAVE TYPE ||| SIZE IT WORKS BEST IN
Down the line waves. From head high to triple overhead.
MANOEUVRES IT DOES BEST
Late drops, sliding into the high line, and stringing deep barrels together.
LEVEL IT IS BEST FOR
Advanced to pro. Anyone willing to attack the conditions it was made for.
PADDLE POWER
Above average.
WHAT WAS THE IDEA BEHIND THE DESIGN?
Christian's main goal was to get into solid waves early, hold a drop even if it's a free fall, maintain a high line in a barrel, and have enough speed to find the exit.
WHERE DOES IT DELIVER ON?
It doesn't like going top to bottom in the bowl of the wave.

OUTLINE
Carries the width forward into the nose, with a tight, more parallel curve through the middle to a wider moon tail. The width upfront provides excellent paddle power to get onto the plane earlier, the straighter mid-section flies at maximum speed in a straight line, and that straighter line extends into the tail, truly providing drive out of the first bottom turn.
RAILS
Step rails: more meat on the shoulder, very fine at the edges. The front rail is soft and tucked as usual, from mid to tail there's more tuck than normal, transitioning into a hard edge in the tail. The rails act like training wheels: it's very difficult to make mistakes on this board. The thin rails bite super fast and catch the turn, deep enough for hold, while you can't overcook a turn because the thicker shoulder doesn't sink too far. The rail is slightly firmer than the Loose Juice's and fuller and rounder through the front two-thirds of the board. That provides a smoother ride in light bumps, holds the vertical face better, and ensures it sticks where it lands if you fall off the lip.
ROCKER
Typically a lot flatter than a similarly performing board: maybe 1/4" to 3/8" less in the tail and definitely 1" less in the nose. But with a bottom concave of 5/8" deep, the rail line resembles that of a typical performance board. The flatter rocker carries through very well, paddles great, and maintains speed surprisingly well without pumping. Plus, it gives you extra time to get on your feet.
BOTTOM
Concave, concave, and more concave. This board truly has the deepest concave you'll ever see in a board. From nose to tail: as soon as you lean slightly to initiate a turn, the rails engage fully and it changes direction.
DECK
Very slight concave under the chest area, transitioning into a very flat deck at your front foot, still fairly flat under your back foot and pinching into the tail. The goal is a bit more volume and a stronger shape, should you take a wave on the head.
FINS (not included)
5 fins. Originally designed by Christian as a quad, but with a 5 fin setup you can ride it equally well as a thruster.
Final Word
Important to note: this board is a complete package. Just like with the Loose Juice, the combination of curves works as a whole. It's a solid step-up for stringing fast waves together, but it also suits someone who prefers to cruise and wants something that paddles well, maintains its speed, and is simply used as an all-round daily board.
Fin(s) included: None.
About Sunova
