Sunova Evolve Paraflex - Futures - 3 Fin - Mid-Length
Description
The Evolve is designed as an easy-to-surf mid-length, aimed at slightly fuller waves with a bit less power. It's an absolute wave-catching machine that will have you cruising down the line with a wide grin.
It's a board that works just as well for beginners or those stepping down from a larger board, as it does for the seasoned core lord who simply wants a relaxed ride for those lazy summer sessions.
Fins included: No
What's the idea behind this board?
A board specifically designed to catch waves effortlessly.
What wave type and size does this board work best in?
Softer, more open waves, from just below hip height to just overhead.
What maneuvers are best on this board?
Catching waves, making sections, and staying stoked.
What skill level is this board for?
From beginner to advanced, in the right conditions.
How is the paddle power?
Well above average.
What was considered in the design?
This board is designed to be super easy to surf. It catches waves with ease and is stable and fast, really fast. With ample surface area in the nose and tail plus plenty of volume, your stance and position on the board are less critical: you can stand anywhere, and it still goes. The goal is to glide over those fresh walls, all the way to the last section.
Where might it lose out?
It doesn't like hollow, sucking waves; its flatter shape means the curves don't fit.
Shape details and design info
OUTLINE: With all that surface area in general and the wider nose, the paddle speed is really good. The generous surface area ensures the board planes early and catches waves early. Moreover, the board isn't dependent on you being in exactly the right spot: slightly forward or backward, and it still goes.
RAILS: The board isn't super thick overall, but that thickness extends into the rail. This provides a forgiving rail that doesn't sink too quickly or overreact, while the relatively low volume still allows you to duck dive.
ROCKER: The low rocker provides good paddle speed and carries you into the wave, regardless of your position. Most importantly: it maintains its speed incredibly well on the wave. If you can't make it to the end of a peeling wave on an Evolve, you might want to try another sport.
BOTTOM: Flat, fast, stable.
DECK: The deck is quite flat because the volume is low, but the rails maintain thickness. Comfortable to ride, with more thickness in the nose and tail. The surface area and flat rocker together keep the board moving, no matter where you stand.
FIN SETUP: Thruster. This allows you to step up when you're ready.
FINALLY: A good board to quickly take you to the next level, allowing you to stack waves with the greatest chance of riding them all the way to the last section.
Construction - Paraflex
Paraflex is SUNOVA's premium performance construction. It has been developed over the past five years from the continuous pursuit of perfect performance and is used for all surfboards under 8'.
Paraflex is designed to provide more resilience and rebound in shorter boards than its predecessor, Balsaflex. This results in a positive, more flexible flex pattern when the board is loaded and unloaded through sections. The boards flex into the pocket and spring back predictably, making them shoot out of sections with great speed and life. A lightweight EPS core is combined with a 1/2" balsa/composite parabolic rail, which is then laid between balsa skins top and bottom. The result is unparalleled resilience.
The bottom consists of a 1.5mm paulownia/fiberglass sandwich that is not fully rigid. This softer part dampens the ride, making the board remarkably insensitive to chop and allowing you to ride smoothly even in messy, average conditions. The deck is a 2mm paulownia/fiberglass sandwich with highlighted mini I-beams connecting the glass under the wood to the glass above. This forms a very rigid, strong sandwich construction that is exceptionally resistant to denting and feels solid and responsive under your feet.
Finished with solid balsa/composite nose and tail blocks for extra ding resistance, these boards look even better than they perform. They feature a self-regulating valve with a slightly permeable Goretex membrane in a special aluminum housing, designed and engineered by TBF. Paraflex boards are functional and progressive.
About Sunova
SUNOVA Surfboards creates lightweight, high-performance surfboards using advanced materials and innovative techniques. They are for surfers who expect durability and quality in every wave. Each board is a masterpiece of craftsmanship and precision, and you'll notice it as soon as you stand on one.
Founded by surfer and shaper Bert Burger in 1976, SUNOVA developed its core values as Bert learned his craft in the challenging conditions of Western Australia. He shaped his first board when he was thirteen and was later named shaper of the year by Surfboard Magazine for his revolutionary 'Parabolic Rail' design.
Bert took his award-winning designs to the next level with his own production facility, combining traditional building techniques with advanced engineering.
Bert started shaping SUNOVA Surfboards over fifty years ago and spent countless hours experimenting with materials to develop revolutionary new surfboard technology. His award-winning innovations reached the general public when he co-founded Firewire Surfboards with Nev Hyman.
After Firewire, Bert returned to SUNOVA, joining Martin and Klaus to further his vision and push the boundaries of watercraft design. Martin and Klaus were the perfect partners with their extensive experience in production, R&D, and sales: Martin honed his skills earlier at Cobra International, the world's largest surfboard manufacturer, and Klaus comes from the automotive industry.
The Board Factory (TBF) is the home of SUNOVA Surfboards, where the brand designs, innovates, and plays. The factory is located in southern Thailand in the coastal town of Khaolak, also known by locals as Khaolak Surf Town. It is the ideal place to test and develop boards: close to the ocean and surrounded by nature, the team remains inspired and connected to the essence of surfing.
It is therefore not an average surfboard factory. It's not just where the team builds award-winning and record-breaking watercraft; it's also growing into a destination for visitors from all over the world, with a flagship store, in-house retailers, a skatepark, and its own 'nTrance' cafe.
