Rusty Egg Not - Torq TEC - FCS II - 4 + 1 Fin - Mid-Length

Simply put, the Egg Not is the squash tail version of the eGG, Rusty's mid-length board. With mid-lengths becoming increasingly popular, it more or less went without saying that there also had to be a squash tail mid-length.

The squash tail adds some extra surface area, extends the rail line, and gives a pivot feel compared to a round tail. The Egg Not is a great board to have in your quiver. When the surf is average, you'll catch plenty of waves and carry through sections, while the board remains loose enough to turn easily. And when the surf gets a bit bigger, it works surprisingly well.

The Egg Not has a relaxed rocker in the front part of the board, which helps with paddle speed, wave catching, and overall glide. The curve is slightly above average, meaning you'll tighten the arc of your turns without sacrificing speed. The board's thickness for this size is on the thinner side.

Those slimmer rails make the board easier to set in the water and also provide better hold in bigger surf. You determine the fin setup yourself. If you want a higher performance feel, a 4-fin setup is recommended. If you're looking for something calmer or a more traditional feel, go for a 2 plus one setup.

Construction - TEC

Torq Epoxy Composite offers performance shapes in Torq's vacuum epoxy layup. With vacuum epoxy, lamination is done by hand, after which the fiber material is bonded to the board using a vacuum process, and excess resin is sucked away. Torq uses a number of tricks that keep the resin content much lower than normally achievable.

What does that yield?

Torq can add extra layers of fiber and still keep the weight low: the shortboards have 18oz fiber on the deck and 10oz on the bottom, about twice what you'd find on most boards of the same weight.

The result is light AND durable. The weight is close to a PU, but it has much more fiber and more layers reinforcing the rail.

How do they surf?

The performance is very direct: TEC responds immediately, which works particularly well in smaller or weaker waves. In bigger waves, the advantage is that they break much less easily.

If you're used to PU, they will feel fast at first. After a few sessions, your old PU will feel very sluggish.

Torq's team riders report that their boards last about two to four times longer than their previous boards.
