Makai – The Lango – Single Fin – Surfboard Fin
Description
Designed by and named after the stylish Hawaiian surfer/shaper and Ala Moana regular, Langsdorf “Da Governor” Kane. Kane loved the Town surf spots but had a particular fondness for the performance-oriented waves at Haleiwa on the North Shore. You could say the Lango fin is built with the idea of surfing everything, from small lines to high-quality waves.
The Lango concept is simple: overall balance with directional grip during tight turns and cuts. This fin is also specially designed to provide grip whilst executing Kane’s signature layback backhand carves to the right. As he dragged his back arm through the wave during the layback, he’d turn straight up and finish with a flashy cutback to the left. All this whilst wearing Speedos (don’t laugh). Anyone who was cool wore Speedos back then. In fact, in the 1970s, they were the surfwear of choice for core surfers, including the great Gerry Lopez.
The fin’s flexibility has been kept on the stiffer side, with a touch of flex in the upper half. The Lango template curve is inspired by the shape of dolphin fins, with a rearward-curving tip for grip. Designed for surfboards ranging from 8'6" to 9'2" in length, though of course it’s always recommended to experiment with different sizes.
