Haydenshapes Holy Grail FF - FCS II - 5 Fin - Shortboard
Description
The Holy Grail sits a step above the Hypto Krypto when it comes to tight, critical moves in the pocket. It's a board that allows the average surfer to catch many waves, while experienced surfers can push it in serious waves and maneuvers. The model is designed to take the Hypto surfer along in their development: it maintains the flow and run of the Hypto, but with less surface area in the nose and inverted outlines late in the tail, which provides very responsive curves and feel late in your turns. It rides in all types of waves, from flat faces to steep faces.
The outline of the Holy Grail is designed for more performance and a better fit in the narrower parts of the wave. This is due to a narrower nose combined with a longer rail line in front of your front foot, giving you a longer and stronger connection for carving, with extra curve so the board fits into the tighter turns of the wave. More surface area has also been brought to the tail to increase planing speed in smaller, flatter waves. The main feature of the tail plan shape is the side cut (inverted outline), which brings an aggressive curve into the rail line and affects your surfing when you're on rail and late in your turns. This contrasts with the flatter rocker profile, which gives the board a very fast and continuous speed profile.
The rocker of the Holy Grail is designed to maintain the speed and familiar feel of the Hypto Krypto, with the same large radius or flatter curve for continuous speed. The extra tail lift compensates for the wider block in the tail plan shape. The entry rocker is virtually the same for optimal paddle power, although an extra 12” of curve has been added behind the nose to better fit into the tighter turns of the wave.
In summary, the Holy Grail is a performance board that is ridden shorter and wider than a traditional performance design. It has sufficient volume throughout its length for easy paddling, plus plenty of flow when surfing from your front foot. Despite being shorter, wider, and carrying more volume, the design doesn't compromise on performance or responsiveness from your back foot, for when you have those good sections or waves lined up.
FutureFlex Technology
Designed and patented by Haydenshapes founder Hayden Cox, FutureFlex is a rich blend of modern, specially developed materials and modern design thinking for high-performance surfing. The construction combines a stringerless, custom shaped high-density EPS core laminated with biaxial fiberglass, epoxy resin, and a parabolic carbon fiber frame. This carbon fiber frame in the laminate is key to the board's performance. FutureFlex is designed to maximize speed and drive and minimize torsion, storing energy to release it as you steer through a turn.
Fins included: None.
