Surfcamp Information

On this page you will find all the ins and outs of the Hart Beach Surfcamps. We will start with some general information about the surf camps and end with the most frequently asked questions. Should you still have other questions, do not hesitate to email or call the surf school!

Hart Beach is open all year round. In many holidays, we offer multi-day surf camps for Grommets (6 to 12 years old) and Young Guns (12 to 16 years old).
We also have one-day surf camps for Grommets on a number of public holidays.

Location

Hart Beach Quiksilver Surf School is located on Scheveningen beach. During the camp, we can be found at the special camp spot in the Hart Beach theatre. There are toilets, showers, separate changing rooms, a sheltered indoor area, and bins where kids can store their bags.

Food & drink

We have lunch together every day with the whole group. In addition to brown/white bread with various toppings (cheese, sausage, peanut butter, sweet spreads), the kids also get a changing supplement. At lunch, there is always fruit on the table and plenty to drink. Throughout the day, water is available for the kids, and we ensure they drink enough. In the afternoon, they get lemonade with a snack (fruit/cookie/ice cream). Special allergies or dietary requirements can be communicated before the start of the surf camp. You can fill this in on the booking form under medical info.

What does the surf lesson look like?

We start with a warm-up, putting on wetsuits, safety instructions and a theory session according to the International Life Saving Program. Then, the kids, each with their own surfboard, will go into the water under the supervision of certified instructors and the camp counselor to surf real waves! We will, of course, not go far out into the sea, but please note: a swimming certificate is mandatory and we assume that the kids are not afraid of getting their feet wet.

Is surfing safe for (young) kids?

Of course, we understand parents' concerns. Safety is our top priority!

Our surf instructors all have First Aid and Lifeguard diplomas and extensive experience teaching children.
During surf lessons, we use soft-top surfboards, which are slightly less rigid than regular surfboards but otherwise perfect for learning. This is for the safety of the child themselves and all other children. We don't go deep into the sea; the kids learn to surf at knee/hip height, in a spot where they can stand. However, a swimming certificate is mandatory.
During the lesson, everyone wears a Quiksilver wetsuit to stay warm. We have all sizes available for this. Of course, you may also bring your own wetsuit if you have one. However, we do not offer a discount on the surf camp when kids bring their own equipment. If you have your own surfboard, you may bring it and use it in consultation with us if it is safe enough.

What about supervision?

The surf camps are led by our camp leader, supported by an experienced team of supervisors and surf instructors who hold First Aid and Lifeguard diplomas. There are always enough supervisors per surf group, and we also have extra help on the beach for photos, setting up games, and looking after the kids if they can no longer/do not want to surf.

Who will be in my group?

Experience is absolutely not a must! We try to divide the groups as well as possible based on age and experience. If your child would like to be placed in the same group as a friend, please indicate this in advance on the registration form, and we will take this into account. If the difference in age/experience is significant, we ask for your understanding and to find a solution in consultation with the head supervisor. Kids who come alone, don't worry! Our supervisors always ensure a warm welcome and a good atmosphere so that they are easily integrated into the group.

Waiting list

SURF CAMP FULL?

When you register your kids for a surf camp, you can choose a start date on the form. If the start date turns red, it means the camp is full; if it turns blue, there are still spots available. Also, keep an eye on the dates overview on this page! We do our best to keep track of when a date is fully booked. We will indicate this next to the respective dates.

Is the camp full? Bummer! Fill out this form to get on the waiting list. We will then contact you if spots become available.
