Ready for your first surf lesson? A kids' beginner lesson at Hart Beach is the perfect way to get acquainted with surfing in an accessible, safe, and most importantly, super fun way. In our 1.5-hour lessons, we teach the kids the absolute basics, so they come out of the water at the end of the day with a huge smile (and maybe even their first standing ride!).

What are you going to do?
During this introduction, it's all about fun and confidence in the water. Our experienced, certified instructors will take you on an adventure.
- Safety First: On the beach, we explain how the sea works, what to look out for, and how to handle your board safely.
- The Pop-up: We practice the perfect pop-up on dry sand.
- Real Deal: Then it's into the water! With the help of the instructors, the kids catch their first waves in the surf.

Good to know
At Hart Beach, we keep groups small so that every child receives the attention they deserve.
- Age: For all young adventurers aged 6 to 16.
- Swimming certificate: A swimming certificate is mandatory.
- All-in: We arrange everything! A safe soft-top surfboard and a warm Roxy or Quiksilver wetsuit are included in the lesson.
- Carefree: While the kids are having a blast in the waves, you can enjoy the view (and proud moments!) with a good coffee on our terrace.
Because international participants often join, it's possible that the lesson may be given in English. If you're not comfortable with this, please let us know when booking or contact the surf school.

Frequently Asked Questions
When are you open?
Hart Beach is open 365 days a year from 8:30 AM until sunset. This means you can rent equipment from us up to one hour before sunset. On very good days, we sometimes open earlier; you can find this information on our Instagram and in our WhatsApp community.
Is a swimming certificate mandatory to participate in the surf lesson/camps?
Ja, als jouw kind wil meedoen aan het surfcamp moet hij/zij in het bezit zijn van zwemdiploma A (of een vergelijkbaar buitenlands diploma).
Where are you located and where can I park?
Hart Beach Surfschool is located on Scheveningen beach, on the north side of the pier at the southern end of the Boulevard. Address: Strandweg 3B, 2586 JK Scheveningen.
There is a Q-Park to be found on Strandweg.
On sunny days and weekends, it can be busy. For an up-to-date overview of parking options, we refer you to The Hague's parking information.
What if the weather is bad?
Safety comes first. Every Sunday before the camp starts, we make an assessment and plan based on the weather. In case of bad weather, we opt for alternative activities, such as a visit to a museum or an indoor skate park.
What if there are no waves?
Als er geen golven zijn, organiseren we andere leuke wateractiviteiten zoals suppen of skimboarden. Daarnaast doen we ook actieve strandactiviteiten zoals beachgames en andere spelletjes.
Are the supervisors and surf instructors experienced enough?
The surf camps are led by an experienced camp leader, together with a team of enthusiastic supervisors and certified surf instructors. All instructors hold a first aid and lifeguard diploma. We work with small groups, so there is always sufficient supervision in the water. In addition, there is extra supervision on the beach for activities, photos, and rest breaks. This ensures there is always sufficient supervision, both in the water and on the beach.
What should my child bring?
Zwemkleding, een handdoek, een extra T-shirt, een warme trui, sokken, dichte schoenen (voor het skateboarden), een lange broek en een eigen drinkfles. En natuurlijk een big smile!
Are the lockers free?
De lockers zijn gratis als je je eigen slot meeneemt. Heb je geen slot, dan kun je er één kopen aan de balie voor €5,00.
Do you have showers and changing rooms?
We have changing rooms with showers and lockers. These are primarily intended for guests of the surf school and the restaurant. Do you have your own surf equipment? Then enjoy a snack or drink at our restaurant – that way you'll also be one of our guests! 😊
